The First® LEGO® League Challenge is a global STEM programme for teams of young people to encourage an interest in real-world themes and develop key skills crucial to their future careers.
BHCA in association with Buttercups After School Club are introducing this to children in Bar Hill for the first time, which we began immediately after the autumn half term (October 2025) where they are now programming Lego Robots to carry out missions on a large playmat. As well as this the children will be investigating a particular issue, and presenting their ideas for a solution at a "Mini-Finals Day" in the village, wearing their own designed T-Shirts.
We will be posting regular details of how the children are getting on, so stay tuned for updates! (Our Grand Finals Day dates will be announce after the Christmas Break)
For more information on the First® LEGO® League Challenge, you can see their website here.
Another Local School (PENDRAGON SCHOOL at PAPWORTH) has show a keen interest and is now taking loan of all of the equipment (Spike Prime Robots, and Masterpiece season material and models, and is now aiming with the support of BAR HILL COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION to contine the work already started. They are also hoping to gain sponsorship to enter a local finals competition for the upcoming season which start in August/September, with the aim to compete against other schools in the area.
So we can continue bringing this exciting STEM opportunity to children in our area (although unfortunately not in Bar Hill itself) with a view to extending the education of our children in a technical, interesting and FUN way.
We will bring you more news as we get it.
We would like to thank the following for their generous assistance in enabling BHCA to bring this exciting opportunity to the Children of Bar Hill:
South Cambridgeshire District Council (Communities Team) - for making this possible
Buttercups Afterschool Club for joining with BHCA to bring this to life
PENDRAGON SCHOOL (Papworth) - for continuing to bring STEM activities to local children
